The only exception, apart from the park, is the Tropenmuseum at Linnaeusstraat 2, an impressive complex completed in 1926 to house the Royal Institute of the Tropics, still one of the world's leading research institutes for tropical hygiene and agriculture. Part of the building became a museum for the institute's collection of colonial artefacts, but this was overhauled in the 1970s to create the culturally aware and imaginatively presented displays you see today.
